New Haven - Chamois Combine 22 Athletes Advance To State

Special thank you once again to Principia High School for their wonderful hospitality.  Also make sure to thank New Haven High School Students, Fey Chavez and Clara Roth, for all the photos from today's meet.  They were a huge help, making it a little easier to keep track of each event and posting results.

Quick rundown on today's State Sectionals

Principia High School - Take away the wind and it could not have been a better day for runners.  Coming into today’s State Sectionals the goal for both New Haven and Chamois was simple; finish in the top four and move on.

In today’s first race, New Haven’s girls 4x800m relay team (Kayla Borcherding, Taylor Covington, Hannah Kruse, and Hannah Pruessner) finished second, running a season best 10:17, breaking their previous time of 10:32, and nearly a minute faster than last week at districts.

Four Boys Advance To Sectionals And The Beast Is Hungry

Principia High School - Seth Schenck is a beast who his hungry for state medals after feasting on two first place finishes in the 800m and 1600m in last Saturday’s district meet.  Once a runner gets the taste of victory they always come back for seconds and thirds, which Schenck plans to get a second helping on Saturday in the Class 1 State Sectionals.

Along with Schenck, Dominick Pataky and Zach Grater finished third and fourth and the opportunity of advancing to next week’s state meet.  Keven McDowell will join Schenck, Grater, and Pataky in the 4x800m relay after finishing in second place behind Chamois.

High Speed Chase Ends In Shots Being Fired

Eureka Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Franklin County, St. Louis County, and Eureka Police were involved in a high speed pursuit that initiated in Stanton, Mo. before ending in a subdivision in Eureka, Mo.

Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke confirmed that several shots were fired by law enforcement once the vehicle stopped and the driver was transported from the scene by ambulance.  No word on whether or not the suspect sustained injuries or what the reason for him being transported is.

Sheriff Toelke spoke with QuickNewsNow earlier this evening about the high speed pursuit his deputies were involved in after the MSHP requested their assistance.

New Haven Elementary PB & J Drive Full of teachable moments

New Haven Elementary Student Council recently held a Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive for the Franklin County Area United Way. 

This drive is in its 10th year at the United Way and the student council decided to get involved. 

Rather than offering the students incentives for collecting the items, the students made a hypothesis on how many total pounds would be collected.

New Haven High School Students showed their American Pride through their art entries in the New Haven American Legion Auxilary Patriotic Art Competition.

A panel of judges selected the above winners as the top three from all of the exceptional entries.

Franklin County 4-H Crowns St. Pat’s Royalty

Union, MO - Crowning of the 2013 4-H King and Queen was the highlight of the annual Franklin County 4-H St. Pats Coronation held in Union.  Lauren Hoerstkamp, New Haven 4-H Club was crowned 4-H Queen, and Cole Rucker, Rockford Rebels 4-H Club was chosen as 4-H King. 

The 4-H King and Queen are chosen based on the amount of funds raised to support Franklin County 4-H Council events and activities.  The funds are raised by 4-H clubs and the candidates. 

Grant Ruediger Strikes Out 11 Handing New Haven Second Straight Loss 6-1

Grant Ruediger held New Haven hitless through four innings and finished the evening with 11 strikeouts.

Hermann, Mo. - With one swing of the bat and Hermann’s Grant Ruediger in complete control from the mound, Hermann cruised to a 6-1 victory, handing New Haven their 10th loss on the year.

New Haven’s Garrett Schoenfeld got off to a good start, retiring Hermann’s first two batters.  But after giving up a two out walk, Craig Winkelmann knocked a single to center field, scoring Grant Ruediger after stealing second base earlier in the count, giving Hermann a 1-0 lead.

Another school year is drawing to a close — so if you have young children, they’re one year closer to the day when they head off to college. And both you and your children need to prepare for that day. Your kids can do so by developing good study habits. As for you, it’s never too soon to start preparing for the high costs of higher education.

Just how costly is college?  According to the College Board’s figures for the 2012-13 academic year, the average cost for one year at an in-state four-year public school is $22,261; for a private school, the comparable expense is $43,289. And if college costs continue rising faster than the general inflation rate, these figures will increase substantially in the years ahead. 

Pink Mob Of Flying Pigs Celebrate - Run Final Mile In Flying Pig Marathon

New Haven, Mo. - Monday afternoon we can now confirm there were sitings of pink flying pigs in the city park around 3:30 p.m.  They were described as looking similar to an elementary student, wearing pink shirts, ranging in ages commonly associated with grade levels K-6.

The New Haven Elementary faculty has taken a proactive approach in fighting childhood obesity by encouraging kids to be active, whether that involves running, walking, or simply playing outside with their friends.

Mother's Day is a special time to show appreciation for all the maternal figures in our lives. From moms and mother-in-laws to step-moms, grandmothers, and great grandmothers, and even to daughters and spouses who have recently entered motherhood.

This holiday gives us the opportunity to express heartfelt thanks and warm sentiments about what it means to be a mom.

Now comes the tough part, what to get her for Mother’s day, no worries I am going to try and give you a little help.

There’s no doubt guys, such as myself, can use all the help we can get when it comes to shopping, so I have come up with a few ideas that hopefully will keep you out of the doghouse.

New Haven Wins Schools First Girls Track District Championship Thanks To Team Effort

Hannah Pruessner, Taylor Covington, Molly Munsinger, Beth Schenck, and Emily Grater react after it was officially announced they had won districts.

Principia High School - Saturday’s district meet ended with New Haven holding the schools first ever girls District Championship plaque high up in the air while taking their victory lap around the track; off in the distance stood Coach John Tucker and Kevin Sohn watching with a slight grin, realizing their girls team was now apart of school history.

New Haven’s “feisty 4”, referring to their four relay teams, 4x100, 4x200, 4x800, and of course the 4x400, all advanced into sectionals, taking first place in each event.  The only relay team challenged was the 4x200 as Silex ran their best time of the year, 1:57.94, but was not enough as New Haven ran a 1:55.45, just 3/10 slower than their season best.

Bank Of Franklin County Makes Donation to New Haven School District From Shamrock Debit Card Program

New Haven, Mo. - Earlier this morning Bank of Franklin County’s Frank Hemmer, Marketing Director and New Haven’s Branch Manager Angie Scheer presented a check for over $600 to the New Haven School District.

Hemmer said, “The donation comes from our Shamrock Debit Card program.  Anytime one of our customers run their Shamrock Card as a credit (also referred to as signature based transactions) Bank of Franklin County donates a percentage of each transaction to the school district.”
