New Haven Women Failed Attempts Of Flirting - Steals Wallet - Goes On Credit Card Spending Spree

New Haven, Mo. - Melissa Thomas, 32-years-old of New Haven was arrested earlier this month after taking a St. Louis man’s wallet and going on a credit card spending spree.

According to Assistant Police Chief Dan Terry the victim returned to New Haven the following day once he noticed numerous charges on his credit card, one being at the BP gas station.

While speaking with an employee at the BP, Thomas was spotted pulling into the parking lot.  Thomas entered the store and attempted to redeem a BP card in exchange for cash, when she noticed the victim.  Thomas ran out of the store and took off in her car.

The whole incident began the night before at a local bar.

OBITUARY: Hermann: Frank W. Purdy (July 16, 1933 - May 28, 2013)

Frank W. Purdy, 79, of Hermann, MO., passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Purdy was born in Kirkwood, Mo. on July 16, 1933, the son of the late Vernon F. and Cordula (Hageman) Purdy.

He was the husband of Joan E. (Jacobsmeyer) Purdy. They were married June 1, 1957 at Hernando, Mississippi.

Frank is survived by his wife Joan Purdy of Hermann, a son Vernon F. Purdy of Camp Verde, Arizona, two brothers A. Sidney Purdy & wife Doris of St. Charles, Missouri and Carroll Dean Purdy of St. Charles, a granddaughter Amber Dawn Flowers of Bowling Green, Misouri, grandson Justin Wayne Purdy of Wellsville, Missouri, granddaughter Aeron Purdy of Tucson, Arizona, granddaughter Rebecca Purdy of Carpenteria, California and granddaughter Nora Purdy of Hermann, Missouri.

Sgt. Parks Earns Drug Recognition Expert Certification - 1 Of Only 6000 Worldwide

New Haven, Mo. - At Quick News Now, we feel that it is important for citizens to know about their police department and what our local officers are doing to help ensure the public's safety.

New Haven Police Sgt. Meg Parks (pictured left) recently completed two weeks of rigorous training to become a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), allowing her to scientifically make a determination whether a suspect is impaired or not.

Sgt. Parks’s DRE certification is not one easily achieved.  In fact, of the estimated 13,000 officers in Missouri, only slightly over 200 are Drug Recognition Experts and there are only approximately ¹6,000 DREs certified worldwide.

OBITUARY: Villa Ridge: Alice May Haberberger May 21, 1955 - May 29, 2013

Alice Haberberger, nee Dinger, 58, of Villa Ridge, Missouri passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 surrounded by her family.

Alice is survived by her husband, Jerome Haberberger of Villa Ridge.  She is also survived by three sons, Eric Haberberger and wife Holly of Villa Ridge, Kyle and wife Kelly of Union, and Sean Haberberger of Villa Ridge; one daughter, Amie Seamon and husband Eric of Villa Ridge; five grandchildren, Luke, Evan, Leah, Lauren, and "Lil' Man".

Six Killed During Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a press release earlier this morning that five people were killed in traffic crashes and one died in a boating accident over the 2013 Memorial Day weekend.

However of the five killed, only two deaths were vehicle accident related in which neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.

A third death occurred after 14-year-old Kaitlyn R. Prater of Farmington, MO, was struck by a vehicle when she was attempting to cross Missouri Route 32.

A motorcycle accident and ATV accident resulted in the other two deaths.  (Details of each death are listed below.)

Two Vehicle Crash near East Central College leaves three injured

Union, MO - At approximatly 3:30 yesterday afternoon, a serious injury accident occured at the intersection of East Highway 50 and Prairie Dell Road, according to the Union Police Department.

UPD reports state a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Charlotte Glover, 69 of Union, was east bound and turned left in front of a west bound vehicle 2002 Ford Focus driven by Tyler Miller, 23 of Union.

The vehicle's collided head on and Miller's vehicle rolled and struck a traffic light signal post and rested on its top.

Sedalia, MO - It's time to pull out recipe boxes and pie pans in preparation for the First Lady's Pie Contest at the Missouri State Fair.

The contest will again be hosted by Missouri's First Lady Georganne Nixon in the fairgrounds' Home Economics Building.

Entry forms for the annual contest are available online for entries into the 2013 Missouri State Fair.

"The First Lady's Pie Contest is a time-honored Missouri State Fair tradition," said Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler.

Luecke Receives 6th Annual Langenberg Family Scholarship

New Haven, Mo. - Ben Luecke was the recipient of the 6th annual Howard Langenberg Family Scholarship at the 2013 commencement exercises at New Haven High School.  Ben is the son of David and LuAnn Luecke of New Haven.

The Langenberg family set up the scholarship fund to give the students at New Haven High school the opportunity to continue their education at a community college, college or university that leads to an academic degree.  The scholarship is worth $5000 and is payable over a four year period.

Pecaut Receives Scheer Memorial Scholarship

New Haven High School Counselor Doug Peirick presents Kelsey Pecaut with the Scheer Memorial Scholarship during Friday's Graduation Ceremony.

New Haven, Mo. - New Haven High School senior Kelsey Pecaut is this year's recipient of New Haven High School’s oldest privately endowed scholarship:  the Scheer Memorial Scholarship.

Kelsey, the daughter of Darin and RaeJean Pecaut, received the scholarship worth $5,000 at the school's 107th annual commencement exercise last Friday night.

Parsons Receives William N. Kelly Family Scholarship

Wyatt  Parsons, has been honored as New Haven High School’s ninth recipient of the William N. Kelley Family Scholarship from the Class of 2013.

The “William N. Kelley Family Scholarship for Science & Engineering Scholarship” was established by the William N. Kelley family, Mary, Bill, Bill, Jr., and Tim, to show their appreciation for the educational opportunities offered by the New Haven School District and to encourage the future of science and engineering in America.  Only students planning on majors in engineering, science, or teaching science or math, are eligible to apply.
