Meet this year's 13 contestants all competing to be crowned Queen of The New Haven Youth Fair.
Fey Chavez is a senior at New Haven HighSchool. This summer Fey is working at Cedar Creek Conference Center in New Haven. Fey’s summer activities include running, attending a Cross Country camp, and attending Girls’ State.
Some of Fey’s school activities include: Girls’ Cross Country, Cheerleading, Track & Field, President of Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America, Student Council Representative, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Marching & Concert Bands, and Shamrockette Captain.
Fey has received awards for: Academic All Conference in Cross Country, 1st team All Conference in Cross Country, Varsity letters in Track, Cross Country, & Cheerleading, State Cross Country qualifier, & 1st team all District in Cross Country. Other awards are 1st place at the Patriotic Art Competition, 2nd Runner up in Blaine Luetkemeyer Art Competition , & 3rd place in Girls on the Run 5K.
Fey is involved in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Youth Group activities in the community.
Fey’s future plans are to graduate from New Haven High School and attend Stephen’s College in Columbia, MO, to major in Fashion Design & Development and Spanish.
During her free time, Fey enjoys working, running, drawing, designing, shopping, & going out with her friends.
Clara Albers is a 2013 graduate of New Haven High School and freshman at Southeast Missouri State. This summer Clara is working as a lifeguard at the New Haven Pool and preparing for her move to college.
Some of Clara’s school activities include being class president all four years of high school, member of Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, and being a student council representative throughout high school. Clara was president of the Four Rivers Career Center and District vice-president of Skills USA. She was a Shamrock cheerleader four years, cheerleading captain three years, & a member of marching & pep bands.
Clara has received awards for the President’s Education Award of Outstanding Academic Excellence and the George Washington Carver Award for Academic Excellence. Other awards include the University Scholarship at Southeast, Leadership Life award at college, and 1st runner up in the 2012 New Haven Youth Fair Queen Contest.
Clara has been involved in community activities such as: Salvation Army Bell ringer, drive by leaf raking, camp counselor at Turkey Hill Bible Camp, & New Haven Food Pantry donations.
Clara’s future plans include attending Southeast Missouri State to major in Fashion Merchandising.
In her spare time, Clara loves to sing, laugh, smile, and make others smile. Clara loves swimming & working out at the gym and spending time with her family and friends. Clara loves living life.
Meagan Ley is a senior at New Haven High School. This summer Meagan is attending Girls’ State, doing Workout Warrior, showing dairy cows at New Haven, Gasconade, & Washington Fairs, and working part-time at Seitter’s Market.
Some of Meagan’s school activities include National Honor Society, member, secretary, and vice president of student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes as member, vice president, and president, Future Business Leaders of America, cheerleading for 3 years, softball for 3 years, marching, pep, & concert bands for 3 years, and track for 2 years.
Other awards include: High Honor Roll for 3 years, Academic Activity Award, 2 rating on Flute Trio at District Band, Varsity letters in softball, cheerleading, & track, Softball Academic All-Conference and All-State, Future Business Leaders of America Districts 2nd place in business plan, and 3rd place in business communications, & participated in track sectionals relays in 2011. Meagan has also received junior & senior dairy showmanship awards at the New Haven, Gasconade, and Washington Fairs.
Meagan is involved in community activities such as a 4-H member for 7 years where she was treasurer 2 years, & assistant treasurer for 1 year, attending Girls’ State this summer, and St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Youth Group.
Meagan’s future plans are to attend a college or university to pursue a career in architecture or interior design.
In her free time, Meagan likes to show dairy cows during the summer, spend time with her family, friends, and boyfriend, read fiction novels, & draw floor plans.
Rachel Horstmann is 2013 New Haven High School graduate and a freshman at Southeast Missouri State University. This summer Rachel is working part-time at New Haven Farm & Feed and full time at the New Haven Pool.
Some of Rachel’s school activities include: National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, volleyball, basketball manager, track, Shamrockette, elementary assistant volleyball coach, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, Basketball, & marching & pep bands.
Rachel has received awards for: Residence Life Leadership Award, Academic Activity Award, Academic All-Conference, Student of the Month, Missouri Girls’ State attendee, Honor Roll, & Presidential Fitness Award. Other awards include: American Legion Post #366 scholarship, American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship, New Haven V.F.W. Post 6890/Viola Eckmann Scholarship, and 2012 New Haven Queen Contest 2nd runner up.
Rachel is involved in community activities such as, drive-by leaf raking, volunteer work for Chamber of Commerce, March of Dimes, Salvation Army, & assistant at volleyball camps and elementary teams.
Rachel’s future plans are to attend Southeast Missouri State University to earn a B.S. in Communication Disorders and a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
In her free time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family and friends, fishing, driving around, napping, and just living each day to the fullest.
Kelsey Pecaut is a 2013 graduate of New Haven High School who plans to enter Westminster as a freshman in the fall. This summer Kelsey is working at Corner Stop Auto Repair and Remax Today. Kelsey is also playing volleyball with the Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club, and attendingVolleyball Nationals in Dallas, Texas. She will also assist with summer volleyball camps and workout to improve her skills for the upcoming volleyball season.
Some of Kelsey’s school activities include: Future Business Leaders of America as a member for four years and treasurer for 2 years, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council President for 4 years, Varsity Volleyball Captain 2 years, Class treasurer 4 years, National Honor Society 3 years, Track 3 years, Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America 2 years, Spanish Club 1 year,& Scholar Bowl 1 year. Kelsey is involved in community activities such as, American Legion Auxiliary Member, Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club, Assumption Church Picnic Dining Room Server, Salvation Army Bell Ringer, Drive-by Leaf Raking, & Mercy Hospital Volunteer.
Kelsey’s future plans are to earn a degree in accounting, study abroad for a semester, and then attend graduate school to earn a master’s degree in accounting to then sit for the CPA exam.
In her spare time, Kelsey likes to play volleyball, go hunting, ride four wheelers, watch movies with her sisters, and hang out with friends.
Beth Schenck is a junior at New Haven High School. This summer Beth is working at B & H Produce Greenhouses. She attended the New Haven volleyball camp and will attend the Licking Volleyball Camp later. Beth also attended Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Convention in Cape Girardeau and will attend an officer training convention for the Future Business Leaders of America Club at New Haven High School. Beth also has plans for hanging out with friends, visiting family, going to the zoo, swimming, camping, fishing, floating, working out, museums, concerts, and fairs.
Beth’s school activities include: class treasurer, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes treasurer, Student Council Representative, volleyball, track, Flag Corps, and Girls’ Basketball Manager, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America member, & Scholar Bowl team.
Beth has received awards such as, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award, High Honor Roll, Academic Activity Award, Presidential Fitness Award, State FBLA qualifier, District FBLA medalist, Excellence in Attendance Award, Homecoming First Runner –up, varsity letters in track and girls’ basketball manager, Volleyball Junior Varsity conference champions, highest average in English 2 & Geography, JV Scholar Bowl Conference Champions, Highest average in Physical Science , keyboarding, & American Government.
Other awards include: state track medalist 5th place in 4 X 800 Relay, District and Sectional track medalist, 2014 People to People Leadership Summit Invitation, nominated for Missouri Scholars Academy, nominated National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists’ Award of Excellence, nominated to attend National Youth Leadership Forum on Law and CSI.
Beth is involved in community activities such as working at church dinners, altar server at church, Drive-by leaf rakings, Salvation Army Bell Ringer, & National Honor Society Tree Planting Project.
Beth’s future plans include: breaking the school record and medaling at state for high jump, becoming state champs in volleyball, and being the class valedictorian in 2015. After she graduates from New Haven High School, Beth plans to attend college & study to become a licensed architect or structural engineer,then get married, start a family, and travel around the world.
In her free time, Beth likes to hang out with friends, drive around, listen to music, talk, draw & design buildings, watch movies, and just have a good time!
Megan L. Poe is a senior at New Haven High School. This summer she is working in the fields of Robller Vineyard daily and at festivals on weekends. Megan also works in the deli and as cashier at Seitter’s Market. Megan plans on a family vacation and another production with for the Community Theatre Company next season.
Megan’s school activities include: New Haven Shamrocks’ Cheerleading Squad, Marching Band, Choir, Student Council, and Future Business Leaders of America.
Megan has received school awards for honor roll, letter in choir, best dressed spirit week award, Leadership Week Award, & ugly sweater contest award in student council. Other awards include two dance awards.
Megan is involved in community activities such as, New Haven Community Theater Company, church youth group, church dinner server, gift –giving at Christmas, and Trunk or Treat at Halloween.
Megan’s future plans are to attend a four year University to major in English and minor in theater. After college, Megan plans to teach high school English and write a book in her spare time.
In her free time, Megan enjoys watching the same movies over & over and watching a different person’s reaction each time. Megan loves reading tons of books and writing her own short stories, dancing, painting, bike riding and taking her therapy dog, Cooper, to nursing homes and other public places, and acting crazy just for fun with her friends.
Olivia Fleer is a senior at New Haven High School. This summer Olivia works at Seitter’s Market and will attend volleyball and basketball summer camps, Girls’ State, an officers’ gathering for Future Business Leaders of America, volleyball conditioning, and marching band practices. Olivia enjoyed a two week trip to Germany; she hopes to return the hospitality to her host sister in the future.
Olivia’s school activities include: volleyball, basketball, Future Business Leaders of America-reporter, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America-treasurer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, student council member, class secretary, & marching band & flag corps.
Olivia has received school awards for Honor Roll, varsity letters in volleyball & basketball, District and State Qualifier in Future Business Leaders of America 2 years. Other awards include: third place in state for National Missing Children’s Day poster contest in 2007, 1st and 2nd places showing sheep at New Haven Fair, and showing and selling sheep and hogs at the Washington Fair.
Olivia is involved in the community by modeling for Katie Kantley and participating in Drive-by Leaf Rakings with FBLA.
In her free time, Olivia likes to play volleyball and basketball, sketch houses, draw & paint, sing and dance for fun, watch movies,& spend time with friends.
Meghan Brown is a senior at New Haven High School. This summer Meghan is busy training for her next belt rank in Tae Kwan Do, attending volleyball and basketball camps and practices, preparing for the queen contest and talent show, and attending marching band practices. Meghan also plans to attend a handful of her favorite country singers’ concerts and hang out with her good friends.
Meghan’s school activities include: National Honor Society, St. Louis Post-Dispatch “A” student, volleyball, basketball, track & field for 3 years, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, Future Business Leaders of America as vice-president, Student Council, New Haven High School marching band-percussionist, Flag Corps, Drum Major, Concert & pep bands.
Meghan has received school awards for academic all-conference basketball & volleyball, Future business Leaders of America- Missouri State Chapter, District II , Community service report-1st place as a sophomore & junior. Meghan received an A-B Honor Roll letter as a freshman, sophomore, & junior, a junior varsity letter in track as a freshman, & perfect attendance award as a sophomore and junior. She received a certificate of award for JV track, basketball & volleyball as a sophomore, a certificate award for varsity basketball & volleyball as a sophomore & freshman, the Presidential Physical Fitness Award, and a varsity letter in volleyball & basketball as a junior. Other awards include six times Grand Champion in Toe Kwan Do.
Meghan is involved in community activities such as the New Haven Youth Fair Queen Contest as a sophomore and junior, Future Business Leaders of America –Drive –by Leaf Raking, Balloon Festival participant, St. Peter’s Youth Fellowship Group, Ice Cream Social, Italian Dinners, and Fall Dinners at United Church of Christ.
Meghan’s future plans include attending the University of Missouri to get a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Meghan hopes to teach kindergarten in New Haven and later get married, have a family, and live in New Haven.
In her free time, Meghan enjoys hanging out with her sister-in-law, Barb, and her brother, Robert, and playing with her nieces, Allison & Isabelle. Meghan also enjoys going on movie dates and eating Taco Bell food with her friends.
Brooke Kluba is a junior at New Haven High School. This summer she is working as a lifeguard at the pool and working at Fitness 24-7, and going on vacation with her family to Wisconsin, Michigan, & Canada. Brooke will also spend a week as a servant worker at Camp Trinity with other teens from across the country who join together to work voluntarily for others in the community. Later, Brooke will be a teen leader for Trinity Lutheran Church’s vacation Bible School in July.
Brooke’s school activities include: softball, basketball, track, choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, & Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.
Brooke has received school awards for: playing varsity softball, J-V basketball, and J-V Track & Field. Brooke also received a leadership award.
Brooke is involved in community activities such as: picking up trash along the roads & parks, The Stream Team, being a teen leader at Vacation Bible School, and volunteering regularly at Camp Trinity.
Brooke’s future plans are to join the Air Force when she turns 18.
In her free time, Brooke loves to sing and play piano. She also enjoys playing softball with her six-year old sister, Sophia.
Megan Shockley is a junior at New Haven High School. This summer Megan is babysitting and cutting grass. Megan plans to attend volleyball and basketball camps and leagues. Megan will be a leader in her church’s Vacation Bible School. Later, Megan and her family will vacation in Destin, Florida .
Megan’s school activities include: New Haven varsity girls’ basketball & volleyball, marching, concert, & pep bands, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes as activities director, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, & Freshman Class secretary.
Megan has received awards for High Honor Roll 2 years, Academic all –conference, Academic Activity Award, 2nd place in Intro to Parliamentary Procedure, Perfect Attendance, President’s Education Award, All-District Band, Presidential Physical Fitness Award. Other awards include: nominations for Young Achievers’ Award in 5th and 9th grades.
Megan is involved in community activities such as Bethlehem Lutheran Church Youth Group and Drive-BybLeaf Rakings.
Megan’s future plans are to graduate from New Haven High School and attend East Central College for two years, continue her education at a university to study working with young people, writing, & photography. After college graduation, Megan would like to get married and start a family.
In her free time, Megan likes to play volleyball & basketball, spend time with family and friends,& play with her cats-Scotty and Twilight. Megan likes to swim with her cousin, go camping, canoeing, kayaking on local creeks, and re-read the Harry Potter series and go to the movies with friends.
Madison Yarbrough is a senior at New Haven High School. This summer Madison is attending the Student Council Workshop and planning for the upcoming school year as Student Council President . Madison is also visiting several colleges in preparation to choose a college next year, attending dance classes at Villa West Dance Studio.
She is working at Espresso Laine at the Junction, as a barista, at Flavors, as an ice cream artist, and at Riverbend Chapel as a banquet server for weddings. She will be a helper at St. Peter’s UCC Vacation Bible School and attends Wednesday night church if she is not available on Sunday.
Some of Madison’s school activities are: President of Student Council, President of New Haven High School Choir, Shamrockette in Marching Band, Captain of the Cheer Squad, Vice President of the class of 2014, member of the Future Business Leaders of America Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America Club, & the Publications Yearbook Team.
Madison has received school awards for two excellent ratings at the State Choral competition, varsity letters in choir, cheerleading, and track & field, honor roll, Physical Fitness Award, and most spirited cheerleader at UCA summer camp.
Other awards include All District Choir, 1,2, & 3 ratings on solos at the Choir Festival, 2 & 3 ratings in Trios at the Choir Festival, 2 rating on a double-trio at the Choir Festival.
Madison is involved in community activities such as: St. Peter’s UCC Youth Group member, Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army, Leaf Raking for FBLA, Fashion Shows in New Haven, Washington, & Hermann, and singing for the residents at the Nursing Home.
Madison’s future plans include graduating from New Haven High School in 2014, attending a university & majoring in elementary education and earning a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a minor in music.
Then Madison plans to get married, raise a family, and continue her journey maintaining a strong relationship with The Lord.
In her spare time, Madison enjoys dance lessons with her friend and sisters, family time with the “M” sisters, slumber parties with the gals, reading, watching movies, and taking Great-Grandma Goldie to the store and listening to her amazing stories.
Amy Engelbrecht is a junior at Hermann High School. This summer Amy plans to volunteer at the New Haven Care Center, attend Camp Moval Church Camp, attend camp counselor training in preparation for next year, and attend cheer camp at her school. Then she will volunteer at Camp Independence which is a camp for children who have Cerebral Palsy, and attend the Summer Talent Academy for Professions in Health at Truman State University in Kirksville.
Some of Amy’s school activities include: football cheerleader in 2012 & 2013, member of Teens Against Bullying, member of Student Council, member of Drama Club 2011-2012, member of Hermann High School Scholar Bowl Team 2012-2013, member of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America 2011-2012, cast member of Hermann High School Spring Comedy “The Match Maker” and Fall Musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”.
Amy has received school awards by lettering in Academics and drama her freshman year and then lettering in cheerleading. She received an award for Best Cheer Motivator in Football Cheerleading. Amy also received an award from the United States Achievement Academy 2012 National Awards in Social Studies.
Amy’s community activities include volunteering at the New Haven Care Center and being an active member of St. Peter’s UCC Youth Group.
Amy’s future plans are to go the University of Missouri, Kansas City’s- Fast Track Program or go to college majoring in chemistry, and then go to medical school to become a Neurologist for children who have Cerebral Palsy.
In her free time, Amy likes to hang out with friends by going to the movie theater, bowling, or just goofing around. Amy likes to go swimming and cheer for her school’s football team.
