DURHAM, N.C. -   On Monday, Duke University freshman Elizabeth Williams was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel, after leading the fifth-ranked Blue Devils (14-2, 5-0 ACC) to victories over Florida State and Virginia Tech.

The honor for Williams is the fifth of the season, which is tied for the second-most by a Blue Devil in school history.  Alana Beard holds the Duke record with seven selections, while Monique Currie was also named Rookie of the Week five times.  Georgia Tech’s Sasha Goodlett was named ACC Player of the Week.

For the week, Williams averaged 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals for the Blue Devils.  The 6-3 center also hit 58.3 percent of her field goals and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.

Williams and the Blue Devils won both league games in a span of three days.  At Virginia Tech to close the week, Williams had a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and one assist in only 25 minutes.  She hit a career-high 10 free throws and attempted a career high 12 from the charity stripe.

Against Florida State, Williams had 18 points, eight rebounds, one block and three steals in 35 minutes.  With her 61 blocks on the season, Williams already ranks eighth on the ACC single-season blocks list after registering five on the week.  This is her second consecutive weekly award.

Duke will next travel to Georgia Tech on Wednesday, Jan. 18 for a 7:00 p.m., tip on ESPN3.  The game will be played in Duluth, Ga., at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
