Franklin County Deputies Make Arrest In Shooting Of St. Clair Man

Sullivan, Mo. - This morning Sheriff Gary Toelke released information regarding the shooting that took place last Thursday when a St. Clair man was shot in the back, sustaining serious injuries and was flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.  His current condition is not known.

The shooting took place on Lollar Branch Road near Stanton on Oct. 17 and after further investigation, Dillon Carter, a white male, age 33 from Union/Robertsville, has been charged with assault first.

According to witnesses, Carter and the victim of the shooting, Donald Petzold, went to a residence on Lollar Branch Road to confront a 26 year old white male, Dallon Ausbrooks, about a prior dispute.

The three then got into an altercation when several shots were fired at the residence,  one of the rounds striking Petzold.

Detectives learned later in the investigation that Ausbrooks was taken by family members to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan after he  sustained severe head trauma that allegedly occurred during the altercation. He was also later transported from Sullivan to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

All subjects are well known to law enforcement.  Carter was out on several bonds on weapons and drug charges from Franklin County and Crawford Counties and was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time of the assault.

Further investigation is still being conducted.
