Linn, Mo. - Friday night in the Linn JV Volleyball Tournament New Haven flat out served the cover off the ball, out scoring their opponents 152-84 to remain undefeated (8-0) and once again bringing home a first place trophy.

However in the first set of New Haven's opening pool play game against Eugene Coach Sharon Speckhals said, "Eugene was probably one of the better teams but we were not ready to go at all in the first set. We committed 14 errors, most of those were passing errors."  New Haven was able to battle back and steal the first set 27-26.  In the second set New Haven began to find their groove, rolling over Eugene 25-17.

The rest of Friday night was pretty much history as they laid down the hammer on Belle, 25-14, 25-11, advancing into the championship match verse Linn where New Haven pounded the lady wildcats in an easy two set win, 25-8, 25-8.

Lauren Bergner was a serving machine, scoring 23 points in the tournament and recorded six kills.  Trista Kormeier added another 17 service points for the Lady Rocks.

But it was Emma Borcherding who went nuts in the championship game, serving 13 of her tournament total 19 points to help lead New Haven past Linn.

Speckhals said, "You could easily see the leadership from Trista [Kormeier] and Courtney [Yowell].  If there was a shaky moment during a game, either Trista or Courtney and sometimes both of them would maybe make a big play or tell their teammate to 'shake it off'.  I really think the rest of the girls follow their lead and Trista and Courtney did a great job of being leaders this weekend."

The JV team remains perfect on the year with an overall record of 8-0 and yet to lose a set.

They will enjoy a few days of rest before entering the core of their season.  Thursday they will host Centralia before traveling to Pacific on Saturday for the 9th/JV tournament. (Download Bracket)

Then they turn around the following Monday to play Borgia and Union on Tuesday. (Both are home games.)
