Montgomery County, Mo. - Kyle Ruediger exploded for a career high 35 points on 14-18 from the field and was named the Montgomery County Tournament MVP, leading New Haven to a 77-60 win over Montgomery County in Saturday’s Consolation game.
Jared Horstmann contributed a career high 18 points and was a perfect 8-8 from the field.
New Haven jumped out to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter and taking a 21 point halftime lead, 41-20. Montgomery County was unable to stop the Shamrocks from dominating inside as New Haven scored all 77 points inside the paint, shooting 75% on 33 of 44 from the field.
New Haven also dominated the boards, out rebounding Montgomery County 32 to 19. Ruediger, Horstmann, and Andrew Menke each finished with seven rebounds.
In the three games of the Montgomery County Tournament Ruediger averaged 29 points per game, which can be contributed to good interior passing.
The Shamrocks improve to 3-1 on the season with Saturday’s win.
New Haven will have most of the week off before traveling to play Montgomery County on Friday and then a quick turn around as they play their first home on Saturday against Barat Academy.
