Thomas Albert Carey, 89, of Leslie, passed away Saturday, May 30th, 2015 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Carey was born in Richwoods, Missouri on October 29, 1925, the son of the late Albert A. and Nellie (Daugherty) Carey.
He served his country during WWII in the United States Army. He worked as a chemist in the lab at Hawthorn Finishing Co. in New Haven for many years. He also worked at Ardco in Wellsville, MO and Permaneer Manufacturing in Union. He owned and operated Lyon Feed Store, and he farmed.
He was the husband of Irma Lydia (Blaue) Carey. They were married May 2nd, 1953 at the Evangelical Church Parsonage in Marthasville, Missouri.
Tom enjoyed farming and woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren and he was a great storyteller.
He is survived by his wife Irma, by seven children; Theresa Busch and husband John, Morrison; Evelyn LaBoube and husband Vernon, Berger; Carol Scheer and husband Kevin, New Haven; Linda Beste and husband Neal, New Haven; F. Tom Carey, Leslie; Michael Carey and wife Mary, New Haven; and Jerome Carey and wife Lisa, New Haven. He is survived by one brother Joe Carey and wife Mary Ann, Maryland Heights; by three sister Margaret Carey, Sullivan; Joann Metro and husband Andy, Sullivan; and Mary Vincenc, Sullivan. He is also survived by two sister-in- laws, Myrtle Scheer and husband Jim, Union and Frieda Carey, New Haven and by 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by a daughter Judy Carey, by a grandson Stuart Blankenship, by four brothers Bill, Henry, Fritz and Donald Carey, and his mother and father-in-law Virgil and Selma Blaue.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven, Missouri.
